Sydney Road Community School was an educational experiment that started in the 70s in the Melbourne Suburb of Brunswick. A Nice Place To Be was a documentary about the goals, the issues and the people who were the original players in this experiment.
It’s funny how you can look back at photos of your children and wonder where that small child went.
My youngest daughter is 14 years old and she is currently studying a short story. The story is The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and first published in 1948. My daughter had to create a Video Trailer as her assignment. Unbelievable, but it did reveal a very interesting thing.
I don’t know what it is about Ricotta, but I reckon I could eat it all day, for any meal. And I do know there is a way to actually use Ricotta for both savoury and sweet meals. This recipe was my personal favourite. And my mother would always make it for me on special occasions.
Ever since my Mother passed away I have been unable to eat Lasagne. She made it like no one else and no one else’s has ever really come close. My god, she was so proud of it. Thisi is a recipe she wrote down for me on night when she was in hospital.

Why could no one else capture that special ingredient that she was able to add? I looked in her cupboards, under the sink, but I never found it. Then I realized it’s not that you miss the pie or the cake or the pasta. You miss the ingredient.
Then abruptly, she would draw deeply on the air in the room and fight for air.
Funny term “dead”. It’s very hard to say. I have had a lot of phone calls over the last week. I found it very hard to say “My mother’s dead”. It hurt and didn’t seem quite right. Too blunt and harsh.
